Another visit to Japan during March of 2018 – this time to ski the powder of Hokkaido and in particular to try and climb Rishiri, a mountain located on an island off the north-west coast of Hokkaido. Well, the gods of Rishiri did not want us, and we were pretty much blown off the mountain by high winds in blizzard conditions… On Hokkaido as well we had lots of cloudy, snowy weather, but were able to some good skiing with legendary Hokkaido powder. At the end of the trip we were able to climb Asahidake with moderately sunny conditions – which made it easier to ignore the biting cold gales blowing that day! Once again we stayed where possible in Ryokans and the Japanese food and onsens were a highlight! Arigato Japan!
