My first visit to the Caucasus mountain range, and the country of Georgia. We spent a week ski-touring in the Mestia region of Svanetie. Although we had a lot of cloudy and snowy weather – when we did manage to catch a glimpse of the mountains around us – they were magnificent. Very steep with hanging glaciers and imposing cliffs! The bad weather did provide us though with some amazing powder snow conditions, so you win some and you lose some…. Another memory is the great tasting, and copious quantities of Georgian food and wine! Tbilisi, the capital, is also a city well worth visiting with its mixture of history and radical modern architecture. A good discovery trip!
